Open water - come and try SUNDAY 28th April , 10~11am

Hi folks, looks like we’ve fixed a date for the come and try session in Glasgow. The list to attend is on the noticeboard in the pool cafe, remembering we are starting with 12+ years, mainly due to the size of wet-suits available to hire. If you want to attend please put your name and details (height/weight/chest size) on there before the end of this week as we can’t take last minute bookings on this. £5 for the session, own transport and an adult requested to attend with you at the session.

More info and a meeting in the club cafe will be arranged in the next week or two, stay tuned.

Meanwhile any questions please see Jan, or Will McMurtrie

Kit recycling

Calling all swimmers past and present... we're looking to start up a kit recycling program whereby we take any functioning equipment such as:

Kick boards ✔️

Pull buoys ✔️

Snorkels ✔️

Paddles ✔️

Fins ✔️

Goggles ✔️

Rucksacks / Swim bags ✔️

Or club kit that your child has simply outgrown and reuse them throughout the club.

If you would like to participate, feel free drop any items into the canteen during any training session from Sunday 3 March 2019.

We are aiming to table a selection of donated items at our Kilgraston / New parents information session on Thursday 7 March 2019 with the simple philosophy of take what you need and donate what you can.

As always thanks in advance for your continued support and please feel free to share this post with friends and family in order to help spread the word.

Wetsuit sizing

If you are putting your name down for the OWS come and try session and you need to hire a wetsuit, can you please put a note of your HEIGHT (in ft’inches’’), weight (in KG) and chest size (in inches) next to your name on the list. We need to check what sizes are available, especially smaller sizes. Please note that if we cannot get smaller size swimming wetsuits, there are standard wetsuits available, which should be OK for this short duration taster session although they are not ideal. Just so you know…

Open Water, Scottish Swimming competition dates for 2019

Following on from the previous post, here are a few dates to consider. Are you ready to take the challenge? Sign up on the noticeboard in the cafe if you are interested. There is a rumour circulating that Jan will also be diving in for the open water season this year… :)

Open Water Squad ... come and try session!

OK folks, the sun is out and it’s on days like this you think to yourself there’s nothing better than taking a dip in a lovely warm loch, right? The club is considering putting together an informal Open Water Swimming squad this year. This will be with a view to letting you guys try something new, getting some experience in open water, and if swimmers want…to progress to competing in Scottish Swimming (and other) open water events this year. We are planning a “come and try session” (date TBC) probably in April / May time at Pinkston Watersports Centre (Glasgow) which is a safe and shallow canal basin, with full changing facilities and swimming wetsuit hire available (swim wetsuits are different than standard watersport wetsuits just so you know…).

Initially we are suggesting to offer this session to 12+ age group swimmers, and depending on numbers/interest going forward we may formulate to have a monthly training session at Pinkston and beyond (Loch Ard, Loch Venacher etc…).

The session will be run by our masters/OWS swimmer Will McMurtrie, … you know the guy with the beard who plods up and down the pool most morning sessions….so come talk to him (or Jan) if you want to know more. A notice will be posted onto the cafe noticeboard in the coming days for you to note your interest. The cost for the come and try session will just be £5 which will include wetsuit hire. You will also need to make your own way there, as an adult/parent would be preferable to accompany you to help you before and after/changing (if you’ve ever tried to get into a swimming wetsuit, lol), although car-share and helpers will be available as necessary.
