Our Vision

Larkhall Avondale Amateur Swimming Club is an open, inclusive and family friendly Club enabling happy, healthy swimmers to achieve excellence in sport and in life. 

About Us

Larkhall Avondale is a highly successful amateur swimming club based in Larkhall. Run by a hard working group of qualified coaches and committee members. It is affiliated to Scottish Swimming and the West District. The club was formed in 1968 and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. 

LAASC swims and trains out of the local leisure centre based on Broomhill Road, Larkhall. Larkhall Avondale also competes around the country in various swimming galas. The club continues to produce outstanding results in all competitions from Development meets to National level. 

Swim Family

The club currently has just over 100 active members, ranging from 7 to 60+ years old. We are very much an inclusive family based club. Our athletes cover a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. Within our squads we have swimmers with a range of additional support needs including learning and physical disabilities. We strive to give every athlete a platform to help them achieve their potential and support the development of positive lifelong skills and values - not just for swimming. 

The swimmers are currently divided over five squads. Development, Junior, Transition, Senior and Masters. Each with their own coaching team. Some of the squads can train 6 days a week. Training sessions are either early mornings or evenings.

Community

We are very much a community club drawing most of our members from Larkhall as well as the surrounding towns and villages. LAASC has athletes from Blackwood, Hamilton, Lesmahagow and Stonehouse to name a few places.  

In our anniversary year we were awarded Club SL Gold Accreditation from South Lanarkshire Sports & Leisure. The club as a whole worked very hard creating a sustainable development plan to gain this award and we continue to work hard to retain this status by continually reviewing and improving the development plan. Following on from this LAASC gained the SwiMark Plus award from Scottish Swimming. This builds on what we achieved with gaining SL Gold status. To round off that year we were runners up in the Scottish Swimming ‘Club of the Year’ Award which was great recognition of everything that the club had worked on. These awards were achieved due to the hard work of our parent led committee and the strong links within our community and with our wider partners 

Join our family

Larkhall Avondale generally offers a free 4 week trial for new swimmers on completion of their Club Ready Swim certificate. 

If you are interested in joining the club please use our contact form to send our development officer an email or come along to one of our training nights. Thursdays are best - where you will be able to chat to committee members and coaching staff. They can usually be found in the cafeteria area next to the swimming pool.
